Ricardo Carvalho is an architect (FAUTL, 1995), and a Doctor in Architecture (IST-UTL, 2012). He co-founded the Ricardo Carvalho + Joana Vilhena Arquitectos atelier in 1999. He is the current director of the Department of Architecture of the UAL. He lectured at the University of Brandenburg, BTU Cottbus, (Germany 2009-13), at the University of Navarra (Spain, 2013) and at the University of Carleton (Canada, 2016-2017). He is the author of A Cidade Social (Tinta-da-China, 2016) and has been published in several international journals, such as Arquine, Casabella, Do.co.Mo.mo. Journal, El Croquis, Oris ou 2G and in several exhibition catalogues. The Ricardo Carvalho + Joana Vilhena Arquitectos atelier has developed several public and private architecture projects and has been the subject of several international exhibitions, such as “OVERLAPPPINGS. Six Portuguese Architecture Studios” at the Royal Institute of British Architects (London, 2009); “Tradition is Innovation” at the Ozone Design Center (Tokyo, 2011); “Lisbon Ground”, Portuguese delegation at the Architecture Biennale, in Venice; and “A Room for Mexico City” at LIGA (Cidade do México, 2013). They have been nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award in 2015.
Ricardo Carvalho é arquitecto pela FAUTL (1990-1995), doutorado em Arquitetura pelo IST-UTL (2012) e co-fundador do atelier Ricardo Carvalho + Joana Vilhena Arquitectos em 1999. É o atual diretor do Departamento de Arquitetura da UAL.
